Hello,
My name is Michaela D.E. Meyer and I am a graduate student at Ohio University. My dissertation is about Smallville and its representation of interpersonal relationships. I am looking for individuals to respond to a survey about Smallville and the portrayal of friendship and family in the series. Your responses would be part of my dissertation research.
Completion of this survey is voluntary. To participate, you must be 18 years of age. Minors cannot be included in the data assessment. Your response to this survey indicates that you understand and comply with this restriction. Completing and returning this survey implies consent to use the data provided for research purposes, and you agree not to hold Ohio University and/or its employees liable for your participation.
If you agree, please reply to me directly (smallvilleresearch at yahoo dot com) [note: replace the at and dot words above with the actual symbols. The alteration used here is just to prevent spamming] with answers to the following questions:
1. How long have you been a Smallville fan?
2. What do you enjoy most about watching Smallville?
3. How do you see friendship being portrayed in the series?
4. What do you find most interesting/compelling about the friendship between Clark Kent and Lex Luthor as represented in the series?
5. How do you see family relationships being portrayed in the series?
6. What do you find most interesting/compelling about the parallel family relationships between the Kents and the Luthors portrayed in the series?
7. How to you think the introduction of other types of family (i.e., Clark’s biological father, Lex’s half brother, etc.) influences your understanding of the family dynamics of the show?
8. Are there any other significantly compelling aspects of the series related to interpersonal relationships that you would like to comment on? If so, how do you see these relationships contributing to the series as a whole?
9. May I contact you via email with additional questions after the preliminary data collection if it becomes relevant?
