So I'll take Chloe over Lana any day. Lana annoys me so much I won't even go into it.

I love Chloe! She always manages to break my heart when she's been hurt by Clark or Lana (and often both). But I admire her for bouncing back whenever they do.
I have some problems with Lana. I'm not going to character bash or anything, because I *can* see where some of her issues come from if I look really hard, but yeah, there's just some stuff I don't get about her.

sorry, what is it you guys dont get about lana? As you said yourself, she is not too complex. basically for clark she is sugar and spice and all things nice. i will let you girls in on a little secret, clark isnt attracted to what she has to say. nor is he in love as at that age it impossible for him to be in love, with lana chloe or even lex, but rather he is infatuated with the girl. still confused, think romeo before he met juliet.
chloe, yeah well i struggle to find sympathy for her. when she is hurt by clark and lana half the time she walks straight into it. lana annoying? possibly, chloe annoying? definitely. Sorry but by their nature, journalists and investigative reporters are really annoying. Lois lane was even like this. sometimes its charming, other times you just wanna reach inside the screen and throttle her. That said, she would be perfect for lex. they could throttle each other.
As for the lana character, she can be a little fustrating but i think that adds to her appeal. she is awesome eye candy and causes havoc in clarks life, making for more interesting story lines. task completed. perhaps they could develop her a bit more but this show, not to mention the story of superman, is built on fantasy not reality. she is a fantasy, she has to be, because quite simply, no girl on earth is sugar and spice and all things nice!

Yeah I can understand what you have just said but the reasons you have listed for liking the character are the reasons I don't.
And considering one of the main reasons she is so well liked is because of her looks...well lets just say I don't swing that way so It's not a positive in her favour which doesn't really leave alot.
I think I like Chloe because I can relate to her in some ways the writers have created Lana as this perfect person sure she has her bad moments but with Chloe she is so human it's hard not to sympathise and relate to her.
And the fact that her character isn't as flawed as the others or as complex also doesn't work in her favour.
I just want to say I'm not bashing the character I'm just listing reasons why I prefer Chloe over her. I think Kristin Kreuk is extremely talented and the show wouldn't be as good without the character of Lana.

Um, trying to answer this without bashing. And I kind of think she *is* complex, internally at least. She has severe issues with abandonment - she feels everyone abandons her (okay some of that will be seen in future season 2 episodes, so I can't mention too much without getting majorly spoilery, which is a shame, 'cause there's stuff out there to back this up). I know losing your parents in such a horrible way is a big thing to happen, but she's built an entire life on that one incident. *Everything* gets related back to her parents, or to be more specific, how her parents affected *her*. Also, she can be manipulative. I've seen her play Chloe and Clark off each other. She does it with Nell, and even Whitney. There's one upcoming episode in particular that always makes me so mad at her (especially as a Chloe fan) and it proves she's not above using her friends to get what she wants. See, I'm fine with that. Everybody has their faults. It's called characterisation, and I'd like to see the show deal with that. But I don't like the way that everybody sees her as the perfect girl-next-door when she's clearly not (and I don't think Lana likes it, either...deep down). also... Heh. Well from someone who *could* swing that way, Chloe still has my vote. Hands down. She'd just be more....um, fun, I think.

wow, this is definatly turing into a heated discussion isn't it!
I think the point that was been made is that Chloes just a stronger character... as in the writers have developed her emotional side a lot more that they have Lanas... and when you think over the seasons, Lana is a lot more likey to be just the girl-next-door/ fairy princess/ damsil in distress... while Chloe had always had the that quirky fun aspect, and has always been much more open about the way she is feeling towards relationships and... stuff.
And I also think that because we are seeing Lana through Clarks eyes most of the time, she is going to appear perfect and infallable. so it does take much more for her depths to come out. like you mentioned her abandoment issues... even though we SAW her loose her parents it has taken so many fairy princess references and her fixing up the Talon and all that... constant remeinders to get that it still plagues her... we always knew about Chloes simular issues and we ONLY just found out what actually happened with her mom...

TEXT I have chosed to post my message in pink because that is the colour that Lana is always associated with, and what is wrong with pink anyway??? Im wearing pink right now, i'll admit it is a very feminine colour but does that make me a priss? This discussion is completely pointless because the answer is completly obvious. It has to be Lana, can't you see the sparks? Everytime they're together you can see it in their eyes, they want to be together which (check out the spoilers or the WB if u want to know the rest of this sentence.) For all you Lana bashers out their, how can u judge someone by their looks, she is extremly beautiful that's something you can't ignore. Clarks' love for her isn't skin deep, he has known her for years he hasn't just formed an opinion of her from her looks. Chloe is extremly smart & sassy, i think she's too out there for Clark, her journalistics instincts could one day backfire and form a dangerous situation for Clark (Enter Season 2 spoiler). Chloe is much more suited to a suave man like Lex Luthor. (They also have a Metropolis connection) Many people have commented about Lana's abandonment issues, how would you feel if you saw parents die in front of your eyes at the age of 4 and u just happened to be wearing a fairy costume, if you were branded for the rest of your life as the fairy princess who lost her parents, wouldn't you start to believe that, that is all you were? Lana copes with her loss by ( in the past ) wearing a chunk of the meteor rock that killed her parents and talking to their graves, as real people. But we now know Chloe copes with her abandonment issues by blocking them out of her life. Keeping in mind she has an extremely supportive and caring dad. Lana and Clark have that connection that no one can describe but Clark & Chloe have a strong friendship that can only be a friendship as we saw in the season finale of season one. He will always pick Lana over Chloe, therefore the only couple that can aome out of this complicated mess is CLARK & LANA.

Ah but that's the point the answer isn't always completely obvious or they would be together instead of avoiding their feelings and making excuses. But you are right Clark and Lana belong together, as for the looks they give each other I don't pay much attention because I'm busy trying not to gag (note I did not attack the characters, i attacked the situation As for juding people by there looks I agree she is a great actress and extremely beautiful I just have problems about how they portray her character. And although Clark has known Lana for years he has only recently started talking to her but he had a crush on her before they even really knew each other. I just realised i have no idea why I am arguing these points because I totally agree with you He ends up with Lois anyway.

Since I know what happens In season two I can honestly say that although most of my points can be argued, I most likely will never agree where Lana Is concerned but thats because I'm a major Chloe fan and she will always be superior to me. ;D
But I am curious as to which point you'd argue PM me if you can be bothered ;D
Thanks

I wasn't arguing the fact that Clark should be with Chloe, rather I was saying that Clark should be with someone else altogether because the Clark/Lana storyline Is getting tired In my opinion.
